Frequently Asked Questions

Some common questions that people have about nozzle.

How can I see who my top competitors are in the SERPs?
1

You can view your top SERP competitors in the Competitive Share of Voice dashboard.

First, however, you'll need to create custom segments for whether you want to see who has the most top 5, top 10, or top 20 positions for your keywords. Click here if you don't know how to create segments.

  • For a “Top 10 Rankings” segment, use the condition “Result Rank <= 10”. You can add additional conditions to filter by device and more. Name your segment descriptively so you’ll remember what it’s for.
  • For other top ranking ranges, use similar conditions: “Result Rank => 3”, “Result Rank => 15”, etc.
  • You can also make segments for other ranges that you want to keep track of: “Result Rank >= 11” AND “Result Rank <= 50” for rankings from 11 to 50, for example.

Once you've created your custom segment:

  1. Navigate to the Competitive Share of Voice dashboard.
  2. Select your newly created top rankings segment in the Segments dropdown.
  3. Sort by keywords and click the Keywords tab.

Below, you should see a bar chart listing your competitors in order of who has the most keywords in the top 3, top 10, or top 15 (or equivalent) positions across your keywords. Further down, find a table with the same data.

Use the Rollup dropdown near the top of the page to switch between seeing brands, domains, and more. Try filtering by keyword group to learn how your competitors differ between your keyword groups.

Note: You can also use any of the "Rank =" and "Rank between" segments to see how many keywords your competitors rank for in those rank ranges.

How do I add competitors that I want to keep an eye on?
2

To add competitors to track, create a brand for each competitor.

  1. In the Keyword Manager, select the Brands tab.
  2. Click the green "Add Brand" button.
  3. Type in your competitor's domain name and click the green "Search" button. It will show some pre-loaded options: your competitor's domain, their LinkedIn, their Twitter, and more.
  4. Select which ones you would like to track, then click the green "Add Conditions" button.
  5. Type in the brand name, brand type, and reputation impact. You can add more properties using the "Quick Add" and "Add Custom Property" buttons.
  6. Don't forget to click the green "Create Brand" button!

Note: If you wish to track your competitor's YouTube channel, this is most easily done by creating a separate brand.

You can view the ranking data for your competitors' brands compared to yours by selecting "Brand" in the Rollup dropdown on any dashboard.

How do I add the location from which I want to monitor my keywords?
3

On your keyword source page (Settings > click on your keyword source):

  1. Scroll down until you see the "Locales" section.
  2. Type your desired location into the "Select Locales" search bar or click the "Browse All" button to add your desired location.
How do I create and edit keyword groups?
4

To create keyword groups when adding keywords:

  • After each keyword, type a semicolon, then a keyword group name. You can tag the same keyword to multiple keyword groups. For example: "keyword; Group Name" or "another keyword; Group 1; Group 2".
  • Alternatively, you can tag all the keywords you've typed into the Phrases box to a keyword group (or more than one) by typing and selecting a keyword group from the Groups bar, right below the Phrases box.

To create, edit, and manage keyword groups after adding keywords:

  1. Go to the Phrases and Groups tables near the top of the page.
  2. Use the icons and buttons to edit or remove phrases and keyword groups. In the Phrases table, you can select your desired phrases individually to do this.
How do I create user accounts for other people in my company?
5
  1. Click on Users in the top navigation
  2. Click Invite User
  3. Type in the person's name and email address in the fields
  4. Click Create Invite

How far back in time can I review the SERP HTML?
7

Once we have pulled a SERP for you, we'll store the HTML forever. Many of our competitors will only store them for a short period of time and you'll lose access once the deadline passes. Our customer-centric approach allows you to review any of the SERPs we have for you, at any time. Even if you leave Nozzle as a customer and come back to us at a later date, our data will always be here for you.

How many brands, competitors, properties can I monitor?
8

Since Nozzle is a full SERP monitoring tool, we have data for every listing that shows up for your keywords which means you can keep track of an unlimited number of competitors, brands, and properties.

How specific can you track by location?
9

You can track results from specific locations by country, state, county, city, or zip code. The more specific options vary depending on which countries you want to track.

See the image below for an example of the options for the United States and Canada.
Location specificity

Is there a limit to the number of brands, competitors and properties you can track?
10

One of the most valuable features of our tool is that you'll never have to pay extra for additonal brands, competitors and properties you want to track. Since we review the entire SERP, you are only limited by the amount of data the SERP provides. Additionally, if there is a SERP result we've pulled for you (we keep that forever) you can go back in time and track new brands, competitors and properties.

Which BI tools connect to Nozzle?
11

Our data resides in BigQuery, so whether you use Data Studio, Tableau, Power BI or one of the many other popular BI tools in the market, feel confident knowing that our data will seamlessly integrate with any of your visualization tools and reports.

Which dates does Nozzle use for comparison numbers in the change columns?
12

Based on the specified date range, Nozzle will use the first date selected and compare that with the most recent date in the range, so this delta will be reflected in the change column.

In the rank change example below, the change column show the difference in rank between November 1st, 2020 and November 30th, 2020.
